About this course

Adam Johansson's new "Nordic DADGAD Guitar" course is a comprehensive dive into his way of playing Nordic traditional music. He goes through accompaniment, harmonizing, melody playing, ornaments, rhythms, and much more.

You will learn how to "translate" fiddle bowings, find and voice chords, and use them in the context of a tune, to shape "the meadow behind the sheep" as Adam says.

One important focus is on getting you set up for any type of jam session where you will encounter tunes you might not know. This is done by Olav Luksengård Mjelva joining in on his fiddle and Adam explaining his process when meeting a new tune in great detail.

Notation of chords in the videos
The DADGAD tuning adds more color to some of the chords than we show in the videos. The elements we have omitted, strictly for clarity, are: "add 9", "add 11", and "sus 4".

About the Guitar

The guitar has been a popular instrument in folk music traditions for centuries. Its origins can be traced back to Spain in the 16th century, where it was known as the "guitarra." From there, it spread across Europe and eventually made its way to the Americas, where it became an essential part of various folk music styles such as blues, country, and bluegrass. The guitar's versatility and ability to accompany both vocals and other instruments made it a favorite among folk musicians. Today, the guitar remains an important part of many folk music traditions and continues to evolve with new players and styles emerging all the time.
