Are you interested in learning to play the Scottish bagpipes? Join Ross Ainslie, one of Scotland's most respected pipers. This course is designed for those who are just starting and want a clear, step-by-step introduction to the basics of bagpiping.

In this course, Ross will guide you through fundamental techniques such as playing scales, grace notes, and strikes. These are essential building blocks for anyone looking to learn the Scottish bagpipes. We use a practice chanter, a standard tool for beginners to develop their skills before moving on to the full bagpipes. Ross emphasizes that it usually takes about a year of practice to develop the necessary technique and familiarity with several tunes before transitioning to the bagpipes.

As part of the learning process, you will explore simple melodies like "Judges Dilemma" and the timeless classic "Amazing Grace," which incorporate the grace notes and strikes you'll be practicing. This hands-on approach helps you connect the techniques to actual music, making the learning experience both practical and enjoyable.

All you need for this course is a Scottish practice chanter—no need to have a set of bagpipes right away. This course is perfect for anyone who wants to start from scratch and build a solid foundation in bagpiping.

Enroll in the "Beginner Bagpipes" course with Ross Ainslie and start your journey in bagpiping with guided instruction from an experienced teacher.

About the Bagpipes

The bagpipes have a rich and varied history, originating in ancient civilizations like Egypt and evolving through Europe with evidence in Greek and Roman texts. The Highland Bagpipe, now synonymous with Scottish culture, developed over centuries, becoming Scotland's national instrument in both war and peace. Despite a period of prohibition following the Jacobite uprising in 1745, bagpipes remained a symbol of Scottish heritage and have since spread worldwide. They continue to be celebrated for their unique sound and historical significance, particularly in Scottish military and cultural events.
