Zoom workshop with Antti Järvelä
February 19th, 2021 from 20:00 untill 21:00 (CET)
Meet Antti Järvelä!
It´s time for another workshop. This time with the amazing fiddler Antti Järvelä from Finland!
Antti will teach you a tune from Matti Haudanmaa (1858-1936). He was one of the very best fiddlers ever in Finland. He came from a poor family and ended up being a homeless wanderer for most of his 78 years long life. He had very musical ears and good technique, even if he was "just" a folk fiddler. His repertoire was huge, due to his wandering life around Finland. Although he learned a lot through his travels, his musical heart was always in his home region in Kortesjärvi and its surrounding areas in Southern Ostrobothnia.
The score for the tune, with different voices arranged by Antti Järvelä: https://www.dropbox.com/s/ucv0feurwr9sffm/HaudanmaanA-duuripolska_strings.pdf?dl=0
The score for guitar: https://www.dropbox.com/s/aw5fskfqhwqlmu4/HaudanmaanA-duuripolska_withGTR.pdf?dl=0
Music books everyone should have (but very, unfortunately, most of them unavailable these days...):
* Frank Hietalan nuottikirja
* Erkki Metsäpellon nuottikirja
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nV37uRLG69Y
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PIWEIF36roI
* Otto Hotakaisen nuottikirja (original compositions 1960-1990 from Polka-Otto) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5F4Ka9yXtdU
* Finlands Svenska folkdiktning, section VI, parts 1, 2 and 3
* Vanhoja pelimannisävelmiä
- this collection you can reach online - it's a little old-fashioned site but here are the directions:
1. go here: http://esavelmat.jyu.fi/tarkennettuhaku.php#list
2. open the 3rd dropdown menu 'kokoelma'
3. select 'kansantanssit'
4. click 'hae' -search icon on the bottom right corner of the window
5. Then you should have access to one of the broadest folk tune collections nationwide put together in 1893. The collection consists of several collectors' archives - the oldest tunes are very likely from the 1750s.
Every title has got a (midi) tickbox and also a little background information section (tiedot).
