Help Article - Chapters

Published on November 13th, 2020

This is an article aimed to help you use the chapters on the site and provide a background as to why a certain chapter is created.

What are the chapters?

The chapters are a great way to use the video interface. You can access them on the timeline where they are represented as dots or by clicking the chapters logo on the right.

Chapters

Two categories of chapters

We have created two categories of chapters.

Chapers as a list

The Main category is represented by CAPITALIZATION in the chapter name. It consists of the Performance, Slow Tempo, the start of each part, the playthrough of each part, and if done the play-through of the tune in the end.

The Phrase category is represented by lowercase in the chapter name. It consists of phrases, motifs, and bits of the tune when the instructor divides the tune into smaller pieces. The instructors use different terms to describe these pieces. We have aimed to follow the way that the instructor has divided the tune, which might not be consistent with the actual form of the tune but most of the time it is. For some of the Hardanger fiddle tunes with many small parts, this can get confusing and we hope that our chapters can help you keep track of where you are in the tune.

We are not trying to give you a "correct" way of thinking about the form of any tune by these chapters, they are there to help you navigate the video lesson.

We hope this article was helpful.
